June 18, 2005 at 12:52 pmAE can support Chinese very well.Almost all the Chinese fonts can be used in AE as well as English fonts.I always work with AE supporting Chinese fonts. And about you problem, can you please tell me what kind of operation system you are using, window?or apple OS?……I think if your operation system can not support Chinese ,neither can your AE.

June 18, 2005 at 4:29 pmI’m using WinXP Pro OEM English version.
My windows can support Chinese as I’m using Chinese Star to type chinese text. Can I use Chinese star in AE or does AE support Chinese Star?
Hope you can advise.
Thanks so much.

June 19, 2005 at 3:22 amBecause I have not used Chinese Star,I esplored the web site of Chinese Star to find if it could support AE.It declared that this soft could support ADOBE PHOTOSHOP,but it did not mentioned AE.So maybe you should contect Chinese star to make sure if it can support AE as well as PS.
Then I searched for the answer for this question in Chinese Google. Then I found this advice from a corporation which produces Chinese fonts:”Those softwares like Chinese Star can obstruct your program(for example:Firefwors/Freehand) in editing the shape of Chinese texts.A Chinese Windows system is necessuary if you want to input Chinese text in such programs.”
By the way, could you describe more about your problem? What do you get when you input Chinese text in AE?And what version of AE are you using now?it seems AE5.5 is not as smart as AE6.0 in understanding Chinese fonts.
I almost forget the most important thing:have you installed at least a Chinese font for your winXP?If not…..it could probably be the key of this problem.
Wish to be helpful.

June 20, 2005 at 4:18 amHi,
I did install some Chinese fonts for my winXP and my AE version is 6.5.
When I input Chinese font into the composition, the ‘?’ appears.
I managed to input Chinese font in Photoshop. I’m only facing the problem in AE.
Hope you could help.
Thanks so much for your kind assistance.

June 20, 2005 at 8:20 amHey there,
I see that you have installed the fonts, which is the most difficult task. As I often use chinese fonts in AE what I have found is that it often does not work to type them into AE directly. What you should do is type them into Photoshop (or in Word), which you already have done, and then copy the text that you typed. You can then go into AE and create a new text layer as you normally would to type it in, but then just paste it. This works for some reason even though simply typing it in often will just result in ? marks or boxes.I previously typed a more detailed set of intsructions on how to install Chinese text on XP and then input it into AE if the above information doesn’t work out for you. Here is the link:
Let me know if that helps, and if anyone has a better solution I would love to know it.
