Need to understand XLR and Audio Tracks w/software
I’m looking to buy a beachtek / Juicelink xlr adapter for my Sony HDR 12. I would like to use 2 wireless lav mics, as well as a boom for some ambient/backup.
I’m not clear on how all of this plays out with vegas video. Obviously I want the 3 audio streams to appear on their own audio tracks in software for manipulation
ie. If I get the juicedlink 4 xlr unit, and attach 3 inputs, will I get 3 separate audio tracks with vegas ? I suspect not, given the 2 track stereo jack input on the sony cam, however how does the 5.1 play into this ?
Do you need a separate mixing board to get 3+ xlr inputs ??
I have heard there are some cameras with 4xlr inputs, not sure which ones ?

Hello Randall and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.
If your HDR12 only records two tracks, that’s all you’re going to get. To get more individual tracks you need to record to something else.
That begs the question of why you think you need more than two tracks. Perhaps you can explain.

If your interface only has 2 inputs, you will only get 2 mono signals, or a true stereo signal, if you choose to go that way.
You could rent/buy a mixer (and a mix person) that has more inputs. That would allow you to combine more signals and send them to the 2 channels on the interface in an already-mixed state.

Really you have just identified why bigger budget feature films / dramas record to multi track hard drive machines for the post mix – when more than 2 inputs is needed to stay split. BUT youre really into the realms of specialised kit and more specialist people.
