i have someone that wants to put the score of the basketball game up after every basket of his old footage. I want to do this in AE, but i want to cut down on render time in FCP. So i am basically going to make a box that is semi transparent and then add text in FCP. What are the best settings to use to take my graphic back into FCP?

In your output module, set it to RGB+A (to include the alpha channel), and this is very important: Make sure to render with the setting “Straight (Unmatted)” instead of “Premultiplied (Matted with Color)”

When you render it, if you play those files they will look terrible (Jagged and non-transparent), but when you bring them into FCP or any compositing software, they will read the alpha channel and clean it up nicely.

If you don’t choose straight, your BG color will get pulled in, and the colors will be off.
