Multiple channels
How would i record multiple channels of audio (lets say 8) which my sound devices 442 mixer. I was under the impression that there are two channels (left and right) so say i had 8 lavs to record and the person in charge was asking them to record 8 seperate channels of audio.

The question is what are you going to record on to and how to get this signal in ????
Most location mixers dont allow isolated outputs of each channel, you may need to hire a desk top type mixer with 8 groups or direct outputs from each channel.
What type, well that depends on the budget and what you can get hold of. -

Brian is right, one 442 will not do. The 442 has four direct outputs, but you’re asking about 8. This is a situation in which more information is required.
If they really need isolated outputs on every mic instead of a mix, you need a mixer with that many outputs and a recorder with that many tracks. There are many solutions, but the choice gets smaller if you are recording in the field without AC power.
