External Speakers 2.1 config
Hello Audio Pros:
A buddy just gave me some external speakers and I would like to utilize on my MacBook Pro for playback/ A/V editing.
I want to be sure I wire them properly. Here are the specs.
1 – SONY MODEL # SSCN15 – 8OHMS – MAX INPUT PWR = 120W magnetically shield type
2 – SONY MODEL # SS-SR151 – 16OHMS – rated input = 20W – max input pwr = 60W
He did not give me any speaker wire (clips in back). Just the speakers. Whats my best & affordable configuration you recommend. Thank you all.

From the way you describe them, they require a power amp.
The headphone output jack on your MacBook doesn’t have the power to make ’em play (or not very loudly).
If the jack on the MacBook is the usual 1/8″ TRS, you need a cable that has a male TRS on one end (to plug into the computer) and male RCA or 1/4″ plugs to plug into whatever power amp you buy.

All last night I have been searching high and low for a Preamp. I have to say money is very tight at the household.
Any suggestions on what preamp will suffice and where you would recommend getting one? Thanks!

Preamps are used to raise the level of a mic to line level.
You need an amp to power your new speakers. You can probably find a cheap one at radio shack, circuti city or best buy.
