Just purchased a Zoom H4 recorder for backup recording and transcription of interviews.
Just a few questions… could the H4 have time code put onto ch2 using ch1 for audio(mono).
Would i need to use wav files or could I use mp3 files with the t/c track?
I have been told that t/c can’t be recorded as an mp3 file but have also been told there is some sort of software around to sort it out?
Any other tricks and pointers from users / owners of the H4 might have, would also be great.

Hello Brian and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

I thought the same as you, that TC could not be reliably recorded as an MP3. Iw as directed by Brian Pratt at Roy Cox productions to do just that on a shoot earlier this year. He said it works. I gave him split stereo MP3 files, audio on one track, lower level TC on the other. He said thanks.

Never heard a word about any problems.

    Regards,

I did a job for “Nova” a couple of weekends ago. I used the H4 for transcription – audio on Ch. 1 and TC on Ch. 2. File format was mp3, 128bit. No problems reported.
