Buying my first field audio kit
Hello All,
This is my first post to the group and I thank you for your time and experience. I have been asked to put together a portable field audio kit for a video shoot.I have been an in-house audio engineer for a live concert venue for the past 6 years. I have been asked by a video production company to provide professional audio mixing for their corporate videos. I seems like and excellent opportunity and another potential source of income.
He has just upgraded his gear to Cannon’s XL-H1 and he wants to step-up his audio production quality as well.
My first investment is going to be a portable field mixer and a boom mic kit…..
I have know idea where to begin !!!!
Cost vs. quality?
I would like to keep the kit in the 2,000 -3,000 range, but don’t want to go that high if I don’t have too right away… I plan invest more as jobs grow.
What are several good quality mixers that are not an overkill for corp. videos.. etc???
Most of his video shoots are indoor interviews….. what type of boom mic should i use?Of course I will be researching the archives, but products change so rapidly, and I am in the middle of reading the Mic article on Ken Stone’s web site now …. I don’t want an one to feel i’m lazy and not doing my homework.
What is the market demand for field engineers on video production now-a-days?
Thanks again,
Vince
