  remove auditorium background noise

  Hi all,
  I am by no means an audio professional, nor in the audio field. I am but a simple person who has a recording of a person speaking in a fairly large auditorium. The problem is, the audio is pretty washed out, bass-y and has a bit of an auditorium-type echo with background noise. Is there any way to fix this so the vocals are more clear?? Btw, sometimes you can hear students laughing in the background. It was recorded with a Sony MiniDisk Walkman.

  Typically there are no good ambient noise reduction solutions. Somketimes the cure is as bad as the disease. You can try. If the laughing is in the clear, you may be able to cut paste some other non-laughing clear parts.
