    Hello friends!

Just been experimenting but haven’t been successful, looking at replicating the explosions of AA/flack guns back in WW2 movies/documentaries. You know the type where a black cloud explodes in the air?
I’ve been using trapcode particular explosion presets, got close, but not what I wanted, any help? suggestions?

    Cheers!

I did this rough a while back and used some explosions from AK’s Action Essentials over at VideoCopilot – https://www.videocopilot.net/products/action2/

Yes!! thats exactly what I want! I’ve got action essentials 2, but can’t seem to find the exact replica explosion, is it AE2 or the 1st?

The best results I’ve seen for AckAck explosions would be from Wondertouch Illusion. There’s a huge library of presets available, many of which would be ready to go with a couple of tweaks. If I remember correctly, AA explosions were somewhat round, with a bright white flash in the center, followed by a quick spread of grey/black smoke (not that I was there – but I’ve watched my share of combat footage) that then spread or smeared due to wind conditions. Here’s a link to Wondertouch:

I’m sure it can be done in Particular, but at a greater cost of setup time. I don’t remember seeing any explosion type presets. Good luck!

This was explosion_01 in Act Ess 1. I then used CC Force Motion Blur, Fast Blur, Hue/Sat & Curves and finally made the layer Overlay mode. They last a very short time with a very fast animated scale to give the impression of flying through them. Finally I used VideoCopilot’s shaky cam preset (I think he calls it earthquake) at the moment when it is closest to the plane.
