I have been doing video for quite some time now in the corporate arena. One of my biggest problems is fighting air conditioner noise. I cannot control the air because turning it off in most cases with affect an entire floor of a building and is not feasible. I do like shooting with a shotgun style mic and have recently purchased a Sennheiser MKH 416. However, the air conditioner sounds still persist. Please give me some suggestions.

I use FCP and have the studio so what are my best filters to use in order to cut the air conditioner sound?

Any shotgun mic, the 416 included, is the wrong choice for office and residence interiors.

To see and hear why and to discover a solution to your problem,
    Go to: https://tinyurl.com/d738j
    Open the video folder
Download the Ty Ford Mic Tutorial.mp4 file
Plug in a set of Sony MDR 7506 headphones or playback over really good monitors and enjoy the explanation.

Just to support Ty’s advice here. I never have met the man in person. Have talked with him on the phone. He knows the business. I needed help with mic selection a year ago. His advice was golden, best money I ever spent, My quality went up , the people I was freelancing for were very happy with the final product. I won’t mention the brand names of the product but I love the “S” Have really learned people can live with up and won’t really complain about a little bump or flaw in the video, but 1 second of bad audio , it really stands out.

Ummm.. did you try a dead bunny?
Contrary to what alot of people believe.. these things are useful even inside, you will get rid of alot of airconditioner noise with it..
(Rycote 18cm Small Hole Softie = dead bunny)
