  setting “mic gain level” on a DVX100B

  I just bought a DVX100B and am reading the manual and choosing settings. I am using an external lav for my next few shoots and am confused by the choice of -50dB or -60dB as the mic gain setting. I’m used to my old Canon GL2 where I basically set audio levels to hover around -12dB as a person is talking. Can someone explain what these mic gain settings are for and what’s the best setting to choose?

  There is (obviously) a 10 dB difference in recording level (sensitivity) between the two settings.

  You must simply TRY your mic under actual conditions.

  If the level is too low at the -50 dB setting, set the camcorder to -60 dB (and vise versa).
