  Signal flow from mixer to camera

  I just want to make sure I’m doing this correctly.

  I’m using a Shure FP33 external mixer for my mics and routing the signal into the line level RCA inputs of my Canon XL1. 90% of the time I’m just recording dialog.

  When I set the line level output of the mixer at unity, and I activate the 1k tone from the mixer, what level should the input be at on the camera? My guess is -12, but I just want to make sure.

  -12 is fine.

  -12 is fine.

  And then you peak your signal to 0 on the mixer.
