4 K video in Vegas, terrible preview
Posted by Jono Grant on January 23, 2020 at 3:14 amHi, trying to work on a 4K video in Vegas 14
The preview barely works at all, even if I set it to “draft/quarter”
Any settings I can tweak to get it so that I can see it in real time? My system is:
Core i9 9900K / z390 Designare / 64GB DDR4 2DIMM / Dual Evo 970 Plus 2TB / 8TB Gold HDD / Quadro P4000 Graphics / 850W PSU / Win10 Pro x64Vegas is basically setup to default.
Thanks!

January 23, 2020 at 7:08 pm31,579 fps is very strange – and probably your problem!
So still want to see all the specs of your recordings!
Here are just a few things you can change about your settings!
Full-resolution rendering quality: Best
Deinterlace method: None
Resample mode: Disable resampleAudio – next page
Resample and stretch quality: BestHere’s an example from one of my Panasonic GH5 recordings!

January 23, 2020 at 7:53 pmProblems are that smartphones use variable fps to adjust exposure and video editors can’t work very well with variable fps – so try to convert one of your recordings to constant 29.97 fps with the Handbrake program! And then see if it gets better!

January 25, 2020 at 6:11 pmThanks! I tried that and the video does play in vegas now.
It won’t let me keep the dimensions though, it seems to force me top use 1920×1080
wants me to change it to an m4v or mkv as wellIs there a way to retain the size and file type?
Cheers

January 25, 2020 at 8:18 pmThank you!
My handbrake doesn’t seem to have the “legacy” preset drop down for some reason. So “high profile” doesn’t show up for me. I am able to choose other presets that do retain the dimensions. I’m trying one called “production max”. I’ll see how that goes… pretty slow to re-encode on this setting so far…I need to learn about this program for sure. I’m more of an audio guy, composer/producer. Just trying to deal with some video files.
Thanks again.
Jono
