    Hello,

    Yes, I’m sorry another “slow rendering” thread. I already checked most of the threads, videos and scrolls I could find about this subject. But somehow I can’t get any descent rendering time. I think I’ve got descend specs ( Intel Core i5-7300HQ / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (MaxQ)/ 16 GB DDR4 ), no viruses in sight… Yet somehow it can take me up to 6 minutes to render a 1 track, 1 minute video without any costly visual effect (only a fade out at the end). So what gives ?

    I’m rendering at 1080p 60fps with cuda, I should be able to go faster than this shouldn’t I ? I don’t expect 1:1 rendering time, but at least 2:1 or 3:1 on a project so simple. There must be some checkbox to tick somewhere hidden in the options that I ticked and totally forgot which is messing with my performance. Tracking the gpu usage during rendering time I can see that sony vegas is not barely using it (like 10% of GPU usage max). So it is using the GPU. Just very very badly.

    Can anybody help me figuring out what is going on please ?

    Hi Eric !

    Is there a difference in Render times – if you use Sony AVC MP4 instead of MainConcept ?

    Eric, does the i5-7300 have Intel QSV? If so you would have probably already tried it for faster rendering.

    If, as Ole suggests, the Sony AVC render format does provide a reasonable render time, you may want to setup frameserving and use Handbrake as the render engine. I have found this to be faster than the render options within VP13 and VP14 has the same render options.

    If you are interested in setting this up, here is a tutorial that will take the pain out of the setup and once you have everything installed it is a simple script that takes two clicks. Keep in mind, the process of frameserving involves some overhead time running the scripts, starting Handbrake, loading the timeline to Handbrake and then the render and shutdown process, but if your project is 3-4 minutes or longer, you should get faster render times.

    One other thing, although I have not found this to make a difference, others have reported that it may help. Go into Preferences > Video tab and set the thread count to 4 and see if this makes a difference.

    Back in 2013 I made a post, on a Danish video page, about Fermi / Kepler Architecture – I had a fast Nvidia GTX 560ti and later a GTX 580 graphics card – switched it to a Nvidia GTX 660ti with twice as many Cuda Core – unfortunately MainConcept only supports Fermi Architecture!

    That did increase the performance by a significant margin. I’m now close 1,5:1 render times.

    In my previous post, I was refering to switching to AVC instead of mainconcept. I apologize I’m still new to this website and figuring out how the forum works.

    I’ll also keep in mind the render engine switch tricks if I ever need even better performance. Thanks a lot guys for the answers and provided tutorials.

    1. In VEGAS Pro 14, GPU Encode Acceleration only works for Fermi cards (and maybe Maxwell). It won’t work with Pascal cards. You need to upgrade to VP15/16 for that.

    2. VEGAS Pro 14 has broken support for GPU Graphics Acceleration on Nvidia Pascal Cards. It simply doesn’t work properly, if at all. You need to upgrade to VP15/16 to fix that. Everything is done with the CPU, with very little help from the GPU. When using the NLE, you probably should set it to the Intel iGPU, and not the Nvidia GPU.

    Upgrading will also give you QSV Decode Acceleration for supported formats (which should work well on a 7th Gen i7-HQ CPU, up to 10-Bit HEVC).
