If I select a subclip in Project Media and click to delete, Vegas asks me to confirm deletion of the source file. I don’t want to remove the source file from the project, just a bunch of the subclips. I could undo undo undo… but only if I had done nothing significant since creating the subclips.

    using: Vegas Pro 15
wish #1: in the trimmer, batch create subclips from regions*
wish #2: same, in the timeline, on a single track with no overlapping files
    * (ideally with the option to name the subclip using the region text – either appended or replacing the filename)

Hmm I tried this in VP12 and VP16 mine doesn’t ask to delete the source files. The delete key is the remove from project hotkey while in the project media and you need to right click and select remove from project and delete files in order to do what you are describing. This may be perhaps a preference you might selected?

OK it’s not asking you to delete the source file but the media file which is the file created within vegas in this case. It only happens if the subclip is being used in the timeline. And if you want the message to stop popping up there is a preference near the top to check off.

Thank you Dimitrios. When I click Remove From Project, I didn’t fear it would delete the source file – perhaps I was not clear about that – but the dialogue window that popped up saying the media file was in use made me think removing the subclip would remove the source file from the project. You’re right! It doesn’t remove the source file from the project, just the subclip. It seems I didn’t even try it before posting for help here. Sorry about that – not my usual way of using this forum – far from it. Okay, case closed!
