Offset frame numbers in image sequence render
Hi all,
Quick question. In the event I render a selected range of frames from my project, the first frame will be always be [fileName]0000.tiff, irrespective of where it lives on my timeline.
I cannot figure out how to get my vegas image sequence to render with timeline relative frame numbers in the filenames. Surely this is possible?

This is not possible because an image sequence is just a series of images without regard to timecode. All software that processes image sequences expects the first image to be zero with subsequent images incrementing by one. You can easily rename the files with 3rd party software after they are created but I’m not sure that other programs would still recognize them as an image sequence any more.

Hey John, thanks for the reply. I think maybe I didn’t explain properly.
I have a 24 fps movie. I export 00:00:00:00 to 00:00:10:00 from Vegas as an image sequence I get:
tiff_0000.tif – tiff_0239.tif
If I then re-export 00:00:05:00 – 00:00:06:00 I get:
tiff_0000.tif – tiff_0023.tif
But I want:
tiff_0119.tif – tiff_0143.tif
Use case example: I have an animated feature film currently in production. The edit is constantly being updated with revised sequences. I render the whole movie as DCI compliant jpeg2000 so I can easily generate a DCP to preview in a theatre. When small bits get updated I don’t want to have to re-render the whole movie, just update the modified frames.
Yes, I could script something third party to resequence the files but it surprises me that there’s no way to offset the frame number natively.
