  • Sony Vegas 14 timeline not moving frame by frame when clicking left and right on keypad

Posted by Will Kee on August 22, 2018 at 8:41 pm

For the many years I’ve had Vegas, when I clicked my < and > buttons on the keypad, I would move in absolute frames across the timeline. How do I get it to move across in single frames?

Project is 25fps. Change doesn’t seem to have corresponded to a software update.

    Many thanks,
    Will

    1) Since May 2016 no longer SONY. Vegas Pro now owned by MAGIX. ????

    2) Frame by frame working here with NumLock ON.

Will, you’ve probably done this anyway but I just expand my timeline to max and it works for me.

Holding the ALT key when using left/right arrow key also works.

    Cheers !

When I’m fully zoomed in, so that a single frame stretches across my entire screen, when I scroll < or > it’s still in tiny incriments. Not long ago, I didn’t have to hold ALT to scrub frame by frame and I’m wondering how to do this without hitting ALT.

NumLock doesn’t seem to change it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I can actually split a frame halfway though the middle of the frame and I dont want that. I want my curner to always click to an absolute frame.

    Thanks,
    Will

Sounds like you have “Quantize to Frames” turned off.

Will, have you performed a full reset? While holding down both the ‘Shft+Ctrl’ double left click on the Vegas Pro desktop icon. Before clicking on ‘Yes’, check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’. This will reset your Vegs Pro 14 to the original installed setting and delete the cached data which will sometimes confuse Vegas and and it does some strange things.

I don’t have ver 14, I have Sony Vegas Pro 13 and Magix Vegas Pro 15. These both work the same and advance using the numpad arrow right/left keys frame at a time when ‘Time at Cursor’ is selected and ‘Time Format’ is set to match the media or ‘Absolute Frames’. If I lock the numpad, then the right/left moves the event 1 frame to the left/right. Drilling down into the timeline does not change this, just allows detail of the time line down to the frame level.

Other than possibly the reset solving your issue, not sure what the rest of it will do for you other than, it is working for me!

    Best Regards……George
