Move image behind mask

First time on this forum.
I’ve been using Vegas pro for a couple of weeks now and loving it. However I have one little problem I can’t seem to find a solution for.
I have a video of a dance school and I want to put a simple rectangular mask around one of the performers. As she moves across the stage I can follow her with the mask. However I want the mask to stay in the same location and the video to move behind if that makes sense!
The plan is to use a couple of these clips side by side for the credits. At the moment I end up with a rectangular clip moving across the screen.
Can anyone advise please, would love to know how its done!

Difficult to explain.
I apply a simple rectangular mask and then add a keyframe and move the mask to keep the person in the centre of the mask. The effect I get is a rectangular picture on a black screen.
My problem is that the mask moves across the screen to follow the action. I want to fix the rectangular mask in one place but still have the effect of following the action within the mask.
Not sure that’s much clearer. I’ll keep playing with it

Eh? To me that sounds like a contradiction to your first statement and that’s my misunderstanding. Sorry…..

Sorry it does seem like a contradiction. Can I try one more time to explain?
The effect I want to achieve is a blank/black screen with a rectangular window on the right hand side containing video of a performer which is taken from a larger shot but is focussed in on the individual as they move around.I can then repeat this on the left hand side with a different performer, to this I add names underneath. The overall effect is individual shots of performers for the credits.
Apologise if that still sounds confusing, if so I’ll stop wasting your time.

You would need to use Track Motion to move the video to stay in place instead of moving the mask.
