Vegas Pro 13: stops responding when importing many 1080P clips
I have some experience creating Youtube 480x 640 videos, and am trying to create my first 1080P video with Vegas Pro 13 64-bit running on Windows 7/64. The desktop is a fast quad-core AMD with16 gb DDR 2 ram. (at least it was high-tech 3 or 4 years ago). I have about 300 1080P . MP4 clips from a shoot to import into the project. Vegas imports OK if I select about 15 at a time for import. Dealing with 300, this would take a long, long time to get all of them imported into the project! If I try to import much more than that at a time, then Vegas starts to import, but it gets bogged down or overwhelmed, and stops responding with the permanent windows rotating “wait”circle. Then the only thing I can do is shut Vegas down with task manager. Why is this happening? Do I not have enough RAM or something?

I have had the same experience. The only solution I have found is to import small groups of files. I think I could do around 30-40 without issue. I just grouped them based on the date of the files.

Well, its not a lack of RAM then, your system has same amount of RAM. Its worse than that….after I had imported about 30 clips, then the media content widow failed, showing graphical icons (guess it means that particular import has completed) for only about the first ten, and the rest of the clips— only showing a generic icon—never finished. So there is no way I can even produce an HD video until this is resolved.

What happens if you simply drag your clips from the Vegas Explorer window onto the timeline? Do they import (eventually)? Are you able to import, say, 50 clips, in groups of 10 onto the timeline? Where do these MP4 files come from?

Run Mediainfo on you media and post the results for CODEC ID. It may be that you need to transcode your source media for a smooth workflow in Vegas.

Another point here is that you cannot edit 300 events at once. Why do you need them all on the timeline at once?
I try to work in sections that represent about 5-6 min of finished product at the most. Then I render those sections to a MXF (loseless) file format for final assembly. Working with long timelines causes many problems.
How long a piece are you working on? Why can’t it be edited in sections?
