Handbrake does not see MXF file format as stereo – Renders in mono
Anyone else using Handbrake to encode from an MXF file created in Vegas?
I am rendering out a project in Vegas to 1080p 35mbps in an MXF format. I then take that into Handbrake to render to various devices and formats and ALL my files are in mono. When I check my audio tabs, it shows only one channel.
When I check the MXF file in Mediainfo, it also only shows two (2)single channels, however when I bring the MXF file back into Vegas, it shows it as stereo under the properties and also the audio meters clearly show a variation in the left and right channels.
I also re-rendered it to MXF and verified that it was rendering to PCM stereo.
This came back to bite me in the ass tonight at a showing at a large theatre for a documentary I did. NOT a happy camper…Again, anyone else familiar with this happening?

I hope you had some luck in finding a work around for this.
Did you end up finding any solution for this as I am currently doing the same thing with converting Sony MXF 422 in Handbrake to MP4 and finding that when I convert it with either one mono channel or the two separate audio channels included, with it aiming for 320kbps they come out around 220kbps or so. That doesn’t seem to happen with other Handbrake file conversions and other people have issues with MXF audio conversions so I’m inclined to think it’s to do with that.
Did you work anything out on this, even using different converters? -
Unfortunately I have NOT had any luck with this issue.
