I don’t know what I am doing wrong or if it’s just the software but my files get huge.
a 15min video file gets over 1gb if I set it on 16.000.000 bps.
    30 min = 2,6 gb.

This is way too much. I used to use AVS recorder or Movie Maker, and the files were always way smaller, like only 400mb for 450min long video

If this is after a render, then my guess is that you’re rendering to uncompressed AVI which will be VERY large.
The solution is to render to a different format. The one you choose depends on what you want to use it for (YouTube, DVD, file sharing, etc.). Let us know that and we can offer some advice.

Checking a recent 14 minute 37 second HD project rendered with MainConcept AVC variable bit rate (max 24,000,000 avg 12,000,000) it came out at 1.14 gig. Higher quality rendering takes up more disk space.

Make sure to use the match media tool under project settings.

Then check the = check box in the render as dialog box. Then use only the profiles that match your project settings. Do not create your own profiles useless you know what you are doing.

Thus assumes you are using vegas 13.
