Sony Vegas lags and crashes when editing 1080p files
Hello,
First of all, I’m not very computer savvy, so please excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject.
I’m trying to edit a sketch that I filmed with a 1080p camera. Sony Vegas has been acting up when I import these files. I’ve been having numerous problems:
1. The video preview has a horrible lag, and sometimes the preview screen just goes black. I have already tried the shift + B pre-render method, and all the options in the Preview (Auto) thingy. And a few various other methods that I have found on YouTube, none of them work.
2. Sony Vegas sometimes crashes or freezes whenever I try to edit or import the 1080p files.
I’ve been using Sony Vegas for about 8 months and I have had no other problems with it when I was using a lesser-quality camera. So it’s just the 1080p that it’s been having trouble with.
I really don’t want to try a new editing software because I’ve already learned how to use Vegas and I don’t have the time or energy to learn another one.Thank you.

(1) What version of Sony Vegas are you using? (Pro? Movie Studio? Version #?)
(2) What is the video format of the 1080p files? (what camera did they come from?)
(3) What are the specs on your PC? (CPU, Memory, Disk Space, OS)?
More then likely you are editing a file that is highly compressed with a version of Vegas that is not designed to handle that file type on a PC that is underpowered for decompressing the footage in real time but we won’t know for sure until you answer those three questions.

Im having the same issues and it’d be greta if i could get an answer as i have been putting this project off for months because of the issue and i need to have it finished ASAP.
1) Pro 12
2) AVCHD Video (.m2ts)
3) Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU B820 @ 1.70GHz
RAM 4GB
Windows 8.1 OS
Disc Space 37GBHelp is very much appreaciated. I have no way of improving my sustem or re-shooting. I have 5 Others replying on me completeing this project so we can complete our Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I’m sorry but your computer doesn’t come close to meeting the minimum specs to be able to efficiently edit HD video.
Even Sony says that the bare bones spec is “2 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD or stereoscopic 3D)”.
Users on here and elsewhere will tell you that you should be running an i7 processor with at least 8GB. of RAM
The other issue is the free space on your hard drive as that drive is almost full and that’s very bad for anything, especially video editing.
My guess is that’s the only one you have. Ideally you have at least two hard drives with one being for strictly for your software and a second one for all your program assets (video, audio, graphics, etc.).
