  • Pausing Video/Additing Spotshadow for Sports Highlight

Hello. Sony Vegas newbie here – please be kind. I make sports highlights of my kids’ teams, and I know some of the basics (e.g. how to a fade overlap, etc.)

I’d like to be able to freeze the video (say, for two seconds) and then highlight an individual with some type of spot shadow. I’ve surfed around and read a few tips, but I’d like to know the best way to do it.

One method I’ve read is to pause the video where I’d like the pause to occur, and then press “S” to splice the video. Then I save a snapshot to file, lengthen it for a couple of seconds and then connect the rest of the video.

For the spotshadow, I’ve read how I should make a copy of my standstill PNG pic and place it on the track above. Then I should do the cookie cutter effect to make a spotshadow.

Is this the only or best way to do it? I just want something that looks good and doesn’t take more steps than I need to take.

Thanks in advance of any help out there.

You could add a velocity envelope and set it to zero where you want to freeze the event.

That will work as well but is more steps.

I like to use a Generated Media Color Gradient event on the track above with the Elliptical Ring preset. Then adjust the ring to circle your subject. This way you don’t have to duplicate your video.
