I’ve had to give up rendering windows avi files because they have got so slow. I looked for a cause and did everything I could think of up to re-installing vegas. No luck. The latest try was over 4 hours, so I quit. A few days ago it was fine. I changed rendering to MPEG2 and it was fast so I
assume the computer is OK. So if anyone has a suggestion about how I can render an .AVI file at a decent speed please let me in on it. AVI is default isn’t it?
    Thanks.

What do you need them for?
If you’re rendering using the default setting, that’s uncompressed which results in HUGE files.

I dont! why does sony make uncompressed video the default? That explains a lot.

That’s just the way they do it and they expect you as the end user to read the description of the render format and choose accordingly.
