Every time I attempt to RAM preview, my machine gets hung up for 5 seconds or so, I get the colorful spinny wheel, and finally it will start rendering frames.

I have a Quad Core Intel Mac Pro with 8GB of RAM.

And, I know it’s not the complexity of my project, because when I solo a layer this still happens.

Any thoughts on what is going on? I’m sick of the delay every time I preview.

    Tripp,
Do you have Multiprocessor enabled? If you turn it off before ram
previewing it will perform a lot snappier.

having mp enabled is better than NOT having it enabled. Things will be snappier without it but slower.
Usually the hesitation only happens once as it loads the needed recources. If it happens EVERY time you render, than try clearing out your cache. Purging it. That works for me.

It may also be something as simple as caching the audio for playback too. If you’ve got a long(ish) work area, I’ve seen this take quite a while to figure this out.

Agree with Scott’s comments about multiprocessing though.

    All the best,
    Ben
