Trouble inserting a layer break in Sony Architect
Posted by Doug Kereszturi on October 26, 2011 at 2:01 pmCan anyone tell me how to do this? Does it have to be done in Vegas or can it be done in DVD Architect? I am dealing with a project that is 6.6 gigs and needs to be on a dual layer dvd. Arch stops at 66% asking for a layer break. I need to have a better understanding of this. Thanks in advance.

October 26, 2011 at 4:50 pmThis is done in DVD Architect.
I’ve never done a dual-layer disc myself but the necessary steps are outlined in the manual and seem to be pretty straight forward. -

October 27, 2011 at 2:14 pmMike,
thanks for the reply. I looked at the manual and the help section. When I go to insert a layer break, it won’t let me highlight it to insert. What am I doing wrong? It says I can do it from architect. The only thing I see in my timeline window is the DVD title. It won’t allow me to see the project in the timeline. Please help!

October 27, 2011 at 6:34 pmDoug, even though I’ve never burned a dual-layer disc in my life, you got my curiosity up to find out what it took to do that.
After you get your file(s) loaded in, click Write Master instead of of “Prepare” or “Burn”.
Click Next, Next again and then click the Mastering tab.
Under Set DVD-ROM Type, select DVD-9 (8.5G).
Under Set Number of Layers, select 2.
Leave the other settings alone.
Click Next and Next again.
This brings you to the Choose Layer Behavior Page.
Choose the appropriate option, depending on your needs/requirements.
Click Finish and wait for it to render.
Good luck with it.BTW, I’ve read here and elsewhere that Verbatim is the best dual-layer brand so go with that if you can.

October 27, 2011 at 8:51 pmThanks so much Mike! I’ll give it a shot. I was pulling my hair out.
Thanks for the tip on the Verbatim Discs, That’s actually what I picked up…
Thanks again!

October 28, 2011 at 1:33 pmOk, tried those steps and failed. I am unable to insert chapter makers anywhere in the timeline on DVD A. It is all greyed out.

Try asking this question on the main Vegas forum as there are a lot more users over there and hopefully someone who has burned dual-layer discs can help.
