multicamera question
I’m learning Vegas. I have recorded a show with 2 cameras, one static and the other one zooming to closeup etc.
It seems that there are 2 ways of combining the two camera tracks, one using envelopes, the other using the multicamera feature. The first works fairly well for me but was a little slow so I tried the multicamera method. It makes it very easy to switch from one camera to another. However I can’t find the correct way of modifying jumps and transitions afterwards. If I attempt to drag the border between two events the border snaps back after I release the mouse button
As none of the video tutorials I have found so far cover this issue I would appreciate any comments.

Did you expand the tracks back out afterwards?

Yes I did expand the tracks afterwards. Should I have done? Interestingly I discovered that the transitions which were in in the combined track had disappeared.
I guess my real problem is I don’t really understand the mechanism and limitations of multicamera editing. For example I don’t understand how the switching from one camera to another is achieved. It’s obviously not done using compositing envelopes because I see that they don’t change.
I can see that if I’m using multicamera mode to switch betwen synchronised cameras, then could be a tremendous boon -providing that I made all the correct decisions at the time. However I know that I’ll want to finetune the result to correct decisions made on the fly.
For example what about moving the switch cut back a couple of seconds, changing a cut into a transition or vice versa? And is it true that if I remove multicamera and go back to separate tracks then it is inevitable that transitions will be lost?
I know there’s a lot of questions here and I’m sure what I want to know is written or shown somewhere, so I don’t expect anybody to go through it all step by step. As I mentioned I have looked at some video tutorials on the subject and they all stop at the point when the camera selections have been made.
However I would appreciate a kind of a general comment about the limitations and inner workings of multicamera and the workflow options. Ideally I would want to be able to use the multicamera function to get things approximately right and then be free to make changes later, getting all the advantages without any disadvantages; but at present this doesn’t seem possible. At the moment using the compositing envelope still seems to be the best overall option because how it functions is completely transparent.

Sorry, been away from the forum for a few days.
Yes, after cutting using mc mode, expand the tracks back out. Then you can do xfades, etc.
Once you expand out, you can resize the takes, and do new fades, etc.
Seems to work for me. But save frequently, you never know when something will screw up Vegas and it crashes. My setup has been very stable lately, knock on wood. I have not yet moved to 10.e because of the stability.Alf
