  not video when import file

  whenever i import a .avi file, only the audio of the file shows up and not the video

  This usually means that you don’t have the proper codec installed. You can use a free tool like GSpot to determine what codec you need and whether it is installed or not. If not, download just that codec from a reputable source and it should solve your problem. Don’t ever install a “codec-pak” as these will mess up your video editing PC.
