I am having a hard time figuring out how to add text to a video. I don’t want a different background but rather the text appear in the video itself. How do I do this? I am using Sony Vegas Pro 10.

    Thanks in advance

The text goes on a new track ON TOP of the existing video.
GO to the Media Generators Tab, click Text, drag the Default Text icon to the timeline and adjust as desired.

I want to add text and have the background be my video footage. I don’t want a solid background. I can’t figure out how to add text with my video footage. Don’t know if I am explaining correctly.

If you want option 1 below, do it as I described.
If you want option 2, use the Transparent Text icon.

Just as Mike said. Default or any of them with the checkerboard background will be transparent except for the text, on track one, video on track two.
