I posted a similar msg once before but now I’m a little further down the road (and just as lost I suppose)

I’ve got raw footage shot on an HVX (P2 cards) that was sent to me on drives in the native Panasonic format that Vegas won’t read.

I have a friend with FCP who can transcode it for me to cut on. The final product will be DVD on demand as well as some web vidz.

Is there a simple, obvious format/codec to go with? All the various options I’ve tried seem to have different kinds of issues.

Second, I’m also having probz with the pixel aspect ratio, the default files seem a bit squeezed and no matter what options I pick on Render I can’t seem to “unsqueeze” it.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

No help there, the footage is DVCPRO-HD, which those codecs don’t cover.

Someone suggested transcoding to MPG2 since that’s what DVD’s get down-rez’d to anyhow, I”m having problems finding info to help back that up.

Have your FCP friend render it to ProRes.
As long as you have a newer copy (Pro 9 or 10) of Vegas along with a recent version of QuickTime, you should have no problems importing it.
To be on the safe side, have your friend give you a short segment to use as a test.
