  Audio muted

  I am new to VegasPro9 and I have done something to cause the audio in my project to be muted. I have checked all the mute and solo buttons and none are turned on. Also, the ‘mute all’ is not selected. The audio meter shows that the audio is present in the project and if I render it out the audio plays fine from other Windows apps. The audio was working fine until I tried to record a video clip with Sony Vegas Capture 6. I tried to capture a clip from the web cam and it failed and then I was no longer able to hear the audio in my projects. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas but that did not solve the problem. I checked options/preferences/audio device and the output is set to Microsoft Sound Mapper. One other thing that may have happened, I notice my output device in Windows is set to Realtek HD Audio and this may have changed about the time the audio disappeared. Any ideas?

  Try setting Vegas’s audio device to Realtech HD audio and see if that helps.

  I believe that is the source of the problem. That option is not available. For ‘audio device type’ I have three options; Windows Classic wave driver, Microsoft sound mapper and direct sound mapper. No matter which one I select the default playback device is grayed out. I don’t know how to get VegasPro to add the Realtek audio option.

  I’d do a System Restore back to when it worked.
