  • Create animation of plane flying over map ?

Posted by Walker Angell on September 8, 2010 at 1:30 am

For my son’s wedding reception we want to create an animation of the criss-crossing of the globe he and his fiance did over the past 2 years to see each other. I’ve been out of the creative world for a while so am kind of rusty. I’m also using Vegas 4 (Sonic Foundry days :-).

One thought was to do it manually with stop motion animation, suck in to Vegas, and edit. Could be very time consuming though.

Looking for recommendations on other processes.

    Thank you!

BTW, I am playing with keyframing (thanks Frederic for the reminder tutorial! Great timing!) but running in to problems positioning the planes start/end points correctly on the underlying map which is in a different track.

Thanks for the link! What I’m trying to do though is show a plane flying across the map/globe. Similar to scenes in ‘Going the Distance’ (rather awful movie IMO, but plane animation was good). I think ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ included a similar animation of a plane flying across a map. I’ve also toyed with the idea of having their heads/hands pop out of the plane and wave at some point.

See if the Animating Still Images tutorial is of any help.

BTW, if you want a rotating globe for your plane (use Track Motion to give the illusion of depth), there’s a free one called Motion Object 1.
Be sure to check out their other freebies while you’re on the site.

Thanks Mike. That’s what I needed. I’m slowly clearing the cobwebs out of the part of my brain where Vegas knowledge was stored. Seems like I had a much better memory when I was younger 🙂

    To be 59 again…

Oh wait, I’m not sure I’ve been there a first time yet.

    I can’t remember 🙂

Now, where did I put the razorblade after that last splice…

    Thanks!
