Can’t capture DV video??
I’m trying to capture a DV tape from my Canon HV30 HD camera, and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here.
In Premiere Pro, all you do is hit play+record on the capture screen and the thing captures till you hit stop.
In Vegas 9 I’ve got no such luck. If I tell it to “start capturing all clips from the beginning of the tape”, it rewinds the tape and promptly tells me “The capture completed successfully” with a whopping zero frames captured.
Yes, I have turned off “minimum clip length” as other people said that caused problems. If I click the “Capture video” button, it brings up the same box, saying “The capture completed successfully”. It seems to capture one single frame and that’s it.
Then I decided to hit PLAY on the capture window, and then hit “Capture video”. Now it starts capturing! But that completely defeats the purpose of having it automated like it’s supposed to be. Well that worked for a couple minutes, but then it stopped. The reason seems to be because the original recording stopped, and there was a half-second blank space before the next recording on the tape.
Well it shouldn’t be doing that because I have unticked “Enable DV scene detection” and unticked “stop capture on dropped frames”.
Can someone please tell me how I can simply capture the entire tape without having to attend to this thing every time a scene changes?
Or better yet, have it do what it tells me it can do: “start capturing all clips from the beginning of the tape”
Very frustrating as I really like Vegas after using Premiere Pro for so many years, but now and again I run into these annoying problems.

Are you trying to capture DV or HDV?

Capturing DV, not HDV. I have a blank PAL 720×576 project open (it’s a PAL HV30), and I’m trying to capture video.

Are you capturing to s specific folder on a second hard drive with lots of room or did you leave it at the default of C:\My Documents?

Hi, I’m capturing to a hard disk with over 500GB free. My C: itself also has 400GB free, so even if it was accidentally capturing to the C:, there’s plenty of space. I’ve tried with both drives and have the same result.

I’ve captured hundreds of tapes over the years in various versions of Vegas using all kinds of camcorders and never had any problems.
From your description, you’re doing everything right so I don’t understand why it’s not working for you.Is this a brand new install of Vegas?
Is it Pro 9 or Movie Studio?
Have you been able to capture with this camera before without problems? -
Exact same thing happened to me when capturing DV from my Canon HV20. I am trialing Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum. Works fine in Premiere Elements, but would like to switch over.
