How To Cut A Long Video For 2 DVD’s?
Hi, I want to burn a 2 hr. video onto DVD but the file is 7 1/2 Gb. so it won’t fit without compressing it and I don’t want to do that. I haven’t got any dual layer discs but I can burn it on 2 discs. I thought Vegas would be smart enough to know to burn part on one disc and ask to insert a second disc but after rendering for 2 hrs. the program said it wouldn’t fit on a disc and halted with no options to do anything else. I was going to divide the file into 2 parts and burn it on 2 discs but I’ve looked through all the Help files and can’t find any way to do that. It must come up all the time so there has to be a way. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

The only way I can find to do this is load the whole thing, cut off the last half, render and burn that, then load it again and cut off the first half and render and burn that but it takes ALL DAY!

With a 2 hr. DVD, you have to use a bitrate calculator to determine optimum encoding settings from Vegas.
I don’t know why you don’t want to put 2 hr. on a DVD as I’ve done this numerous times with no problems.
If the video quality is marginal, make sure to do a 2-pass encode.
It will take longer but the results are worth it.
https://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip is the one I’ve been using for a long time now and it’s never let me down.Also, make sure you only use brand name DVDs.
Taiyo-Yuden and Verbatim are the two most recommended brands. -
I don’t have any idea what you are talking about, I assume that’s an option in Vegas? It was hard enough just to figure out how to cut the video in half so I don’t think I’ll ever try that but thanks.

You didn’t say if you’re using Vegas Pro or one of the Movie Studio versions.
If it’s Movie Studio, you don’t have a lot of choices for DVD encoding (the proper term for rendering).
If it’s Vegas Pro, search the Vegas forum here on the Cow for DVD authoring as this topic has been discussed numerous times.
If you’re going be burning 2 hr. DVDs on a regular basis, this is a topic that you need to understand.
The online help in Vegas is quite good at explaining a wide variety of things. -

How do i do this, other than splitting as chap above tried to do?
