2 q’s : Cropping and Speeding up
1) Is there a way to crop out a specific portion of a video clip and have it overlay another are of the video clip on a new layer in a different area?
2) How do I speed up a clip so as to make my movie length shorter but still show the same overall amount of clip in a shorter timeframe if that makes sense 😮 [basically just how do i speed it up — fastforward? Rofl I know this question will piss someone off but I swear I’ve read through basics and stuff 🙁 Sorry

1. Use Pan/Crop and/or Track Motion. An interesting new option is the Image Mapper plugin in Video Essentials III from NewBluefx.
2. Hold down the CTRL key and resize the event smaller. This will make it play faster.

I have been using pan/crop quite a lot throughout my learning process and trying my damndest to figure out how to slice up individual parts of my video and have them play in other areas but cant seem to figure it out. I can isolate different sections but can’t actually remove them from the clip they are a part of and move them around. Also trying to make them scale is an enormous problem.
I will look up tutorials now on the pan crop function and track motion, can you explain how I use new blue video essentials?

Edit: Arrrrgh I can’t find a tutorial explaining it and I’m trying to use track motion but can’t find a tutorial that shows how to slice it up like I want, just to manipulate the scene as a whole.

Just forget about the New Blue essentials. They contain hardly anything you can’t do already in Vegas. The following sites might explain everything you are looking for:

I’d once again like to reiterate that I’m new and as such might be a complete moron, I looked through those tutorials and don’t think it gave me much use, although it did teach me some things — it did not teach me how to do my desired effect!
I have photoshopped an image [ lol ], trying to show the effect I want. Of course it is not literally THE effect in placement, but in principle this is what I would like to do — cut something from one area and place it in another area!!

With the links I gave you, I was trying to show you the right direction:
Place one picture into another picture (PIP or Picture in Picture) is described in the first tutorial which deals with track motion.To cut a piece out of a picture (or video or whatever you place on the timeline) is called cropping and is described in the last tutorial talking about the pan/crop window.
The other 2 tutorials give you some more ideas how you can play with this PIP to increase your creative possibilities

You know what man….
sigh I’m such a moron I had extreme tunnel vision and failed to put track motion and pan/crop TOGETHER, wow, just wow buddy.
I kept thinking “wow track motion can only alter where my scene is but can’t isolate a part”, and “wow pan/crop can only isolate a part but not where it is”…
unreal, thank you very much for your patience — I for one, would have flamed someone like me if this were photoshop 🙁
