How to create a frame for still photos
I’m using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum.
I’m trying to create a video that comprises of a series of still photographs that fade in one after the other. The photographs come in all different size aspect ratios. They are already cropped to contain only the important elements of the photo.
The end result is that I get a black background on two sides of the still because obviously the screen depth to width ratio is always different to the photo ratio.
Is there someway for me to create textured colour to replace the standard black.
Or better still….is there someway for me to place each still photo in a full colour frame.
In PowerPoint it is easy to place still photos into frames…but I can’t seem to work out how to do it in Vegas.
If some-one could tell me how this is done I would be VERY grateful.

Drop any textured background you want to a new track UNDER the picture track.
The black borders will be replaced by whatever your background is.“Or better still….is there someway for me to place each still photo in a full colour frame.”
I do this all the time but it’s a bit more work.
If you have access to Photoshop or a similar app, create a frame with a transparent background where the image should appear.
Photoshop also has “actions” that allow you to add a frame to any picture if you should so desire.
You can also do a Google search and I’m sure you can turn up lots of picture frames that you can use.
Once again, make sure the image area is transparent.
Place the frame on the TOP track and all your images on the lower track.
The transparent area will be replaced by what’s below it which, in this case, is your images. -
Why not use the Sony Border fx if he just wants a solid border around each picture, even with different pictures?

Terry, there’s nothing wrong with using the Border FX for something really simple (I’ve used the soft edge feature a lot lately) but, if you’re after something that looks like a picture frame, then you pretty much have to go the route I suggested.

Just drag your backgroundfile from the MEDIA GENERATORS tab or the EXPLORER tab to the videotrack below the track with your photograph.
