  DVD Architect and working with large .avi files. Is there a way to compress them?

  Now for a couple more questions please now that I have hope that I can work DVDA.

  1. What is the maximum size of an .avi file that I can burn using DVDA? The Sony blank DVD I am using to burn my project to holds 4.7 Gigs and the project I want to burn although only 40 minutes long is almost 5 gig.

  2. Can you recommend a way to compress or reduce the size of my .avi file but still keep the quality at the “best” setting in Sony Vegas for rendering?

  Don, what kind of AVI is it (DivX, Xvid)?
  40 min. of DV-AVI should be a bit over 8 gigs.
  I always do my encodes (i.e. renders) from Vegas as MPEG-2 and AC-3 and give those to DVDA.
  If it’s an AVI file, DVDA shouldn’t care how long it is as it will re-compress it for you to fit on a DVD.

  Thanks a million. Because of the new and unfamiliar territory I did not think to change the destination drives in the places you mentioned. Once I completed that I was able to burn my first DVD (with the exception of some aborted small projects) in DVDA.

  I still have some questions but at least am up and running!
