  Newbie DVD Aspect Ratio confusion

  Greetings all,
  I’ve created a nice project in Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum and created a Single Movie DVD in DVD Architect. In Vegas MS, my project is 720x480x32. When my employer viewed the resulting DVD on his TV, the “sides were cut off”.

  What settings should I be using in Vegas and DVD Architect to make sure that any user sees the entire thing (I’d rather have black lines on top/bottom or sides than have ANYTHING cut off).

  You neglected to take the Safe Action/Title Area into account when you ere editing.
  These markers should be on in the Vegas preview window if you’re doing anything critical, especially titles.
  The default in Vegas for Safe Action Area is 10% and Safe Title Area is 20%.
  Keep any critical information inside of these marks and you’ll be OK.
  Anything outside of this area may not show up on a regular TV due to overscan (explained in link above).
  If your employer wants to see everything, your only choice is to use Track Motion to zoom the entire timeline out so that it falls within the 10% mark.

  Thanks for the reply!

  I was using the Safe Area in the Video Media Generator, but did not take it into account on stills that I made in Photoshop. For any others searching this forum with the same issue, this is most easily solved by using the appropriate Preset in Photoshop when creating a New document. In my case using “NTSC DV 720×480 (with guides)” is perfect.
