DVDA 3.0 Burn Parameters locked
Posted by Bret King on May 12, 2009 at 3:35 pmI am using DVDA 3.0 and attempting to burn a 1.7GB MPEG2 to DVD.
All indications are that things are going well until I get to the “Select Burn Parameters” screen, which is locked and I am able to go no further. What do I need to do to remedy the situation? I saw the same question posted back in ’05, but, saw no response.Mike Kujbida replied 17 years ago 2 Members · 7 Replies -

May 13, 2009 at 2:15 amBret, do you have another burning app (Nero, Roxio, RecordNow) that you can use?
The way I’ve been doing it for a long time now is to use the Prepare option in DVDA to create the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders and then use RecordNow to burn this as a data DVD.
I’ve burned several hundred DVDs this way and never had any problems.
I stick to good name-brand media like Taiyo-Yuden (my personal choice) or Verbatim if the T-Ys aren’t available. -

May 13, 2009 at 2:47 pmThank you so much, Mike. This worked perfectly with Nero.
I had some minor “jumping” in the DVD, but, I’m assuming that is caused by too high of a burn rate.???
I’ll try a slower rate and see what happens. Thanks again. You’re a life saver. -

May 13, 2009 at 4:25 pmBret, sometimes I get luck with my suggestions 🙂
Glad to hear that you got it resolved.
Your “minor jumping” could be due to a too-fast burn rate (I burn mine at 1/2 the rated speed), cheap media (I stick to Taiyo-Yuden) or too high a bit rate on the original encoding (I stick to a max of 8,000,000). -

May 13, 2009 at 8:09 pmThanks again, Mike. The slower burn rate was the cure, but, now it’s jumping at each chapter. Could that still be caused by the things you mentioned or is it possible Nero it causing it?

May 13, 2009 at 11:15 pmBret, I’ve never had that problem so I honestly don’t know what the problem could be.
Did you do the encode for this project using a default template or a custom one?
If it was a custom one, was it CBR or VBR and what was the MAX number?I use RecordNow so I don’t know if Nero could be the problem.
I have read about some users complaining about Nero 9.
Is this the version you have? -

May 14, 2009 at 3:20 pmFYI,
For you and those others who might be having the same problem, it was the VBR. I switched to CBR with no loss of quality and it was smoooooth sailin’! Thanks again for all your help. -

I never thought about that being a problem.
My “rule of thumb” is to render CBR if the video is under 70 min.
Anything more than that and I fire up my bitrate calculator.
