I’m working on a piece of animation in Ae. The staging is basically an extremely wide composition, with png illustrations situated in 3d space. I’m having the camera dolly to the right to create a scrolling background shot. The trouble is, when I run a RAM preview or render it, all of the imagery looks shaky, or flashy. Like it is not moving across the screen smoothly. I have the camera ease out of the position to begin the movement, and first bundle of frames looks really nice, but as the camera picks up speed, this is when the imagery becomes compensated, and honestly it makes it hard to look at!

What can I do about this?

Try rendering with the motion blur cranked up pretty high, like around 300 or so and see if that helps to smooth it out.

How is this done? I’ve never tooled around with motion blur before. Thanks!

    Composition>Composition Settings…

    Click on the Advanced tab.

The Shutter Angle controls the amount of motion blur. Set it to 300 to start.

Turn on motion blur for all moving layers and for the comp itself.

RAM preview and see how it looks, then adjust the Shutter Angle as needed to get the look you want.

Search “Motion Blur” in AE help for more details about how it works.

    Hope that helps.

Sometimes, blurring only gets you stuttery, blurry objects.

Search the COW for “judder” if the above solutions don’t work, and you’d like some more info.
