Volume Envelopes
Posted by Devon Thomas treadwell on October 7, 2008 at 6:19 amI’ve added an .mp3 to the timeline and have applied a volume envelope. Despite adjusting the volume with a fade up and fade down, the volume is playing back in preview at full volume, and the wave shape is unchanged. What am I doing wrong here? Shouldn’t I be able to hear a change in volume (and see the wave shrink accordingly)?

October 7, 2008 at 4:03 pmThere is a GAIN line at the top of the audio track that can decrease gain. As you move it you will see a change in the wave form.
When you use a volume envelope and add ndes and make changes you will not see any changes in the wave form but you should hear the difference or change when you play the time line. -

October 7, 2008 at 4:18 pmHmmm…. I must not be understanding how the envelope works. I did not hear any change in volume when I added the fade up and fade down. It’s good to know not to expect the wave form to alter. But I’m still stumped as to why I’m not hearing the volume change.

October 7, 2008 at 6:58 pmDid you click and add nodes to the envelope to control it?

October 7, 2008 at 8:19 pmYes. I have the envelope fading up, holding steady a while, then fading down.

October 7, 2008 at 10:28 pmDon’t know what to tell you. When I have the volume envelope do that, while the wave form does not show the change, it is changed when I play it in the preview. What if you prerender or ram render that section, does it come out right?

October 7, 2008 at 10:46 pmHi,
Are you pressing “play” above the project media window or below the timeline? You won’t hear any volume change if you are using the play button above the project media window. -

October 16, 2008 at 4:42 pmMust have been just a bug. The problem disappeared when I rebooted my computer and restarted Vegas.
