  Huge .avi files

  I captured 12 minutes of digital video into Vegas Platinum and it created a 2.9 GB .avi file! What!? If I had a full hour, does that mean a 15 GB humongous file? Do I want that? Can Vegas process that? Does it automatically split it up?

  DV-AVI is about 13Gig per hour so that sounds right. And, yes, Vegas can handle that and you DO want that.

  It will NOT automatically split it up unless it has to do so (i.e. capturing to a FAT32 formatted drive which has a 4Gig file size limit) or unless you tell it to.

  How would you back that up? Obviously you are limited to tape backup, does that seem correct?

  My “backup” has usually been my original tape. You can also use external hard drives – just copy the files to them.
