Workflow from HDV capture => Vegas => DVD to max quality (?)
I filmed part of a local football game as my first HV20 test, and want to check whether there’s anything I could have done to increase quality of final video:
1) Recorded HDV video to camcorder
2) Captured as .m2t with Video Vegas 7
3) Edited .m2t files directly in Vegas
4) Exported as MPEG2 quality=”high”, and burned to DVD (using Architect)Is there a way to improve the final video quality to DVD other than the above steps? There’s no “quality” settings for the initial .m2t capture, right? Converting .m2t to .avi before editing in Vegas wouldn’t improve quality, would it?
Please confirm that I did everything “right” to get the best quality DVD I can get. When watching it on an HD Television, I was disappointed by the graininess of the final output, but I guess that’s what you get when you down-convert to 720×480 for DVD and then stretch it back out to watch on an HD screen (?)

Yes, the best workflow in Vegas is capture HDV (.m2t in your #1 above), edit in HD, and then do the final render to SD MPEG2.
