Hi, I have been using platinum for 4-5 days now, it’s great, I did a project with all kinds of effects, however there is a serious memory management issue I am noticing. After doing the usual operations in vegas such as moving clips, trimming clips, ripple editing, opening up files in the trimmer & copying parts of those, I notice Vegas starts sucking up hundreds of megs of memory and DOES NOT RETURN IT TO THE SYSTEM. I did a bunch of edits and operations and in task manager, saw it was sucking up a half gig of memory!! What? I exited and reloaded the entire app and my project, and it showed 140 megs of memory!! What is sucking up 340 megs of memory in Vegas? Are there buffers I need to flush? I am getting paging errors in Windows because of this and it slows down dramatically. I have 768 MB of RAM. Anybody else noticing this problem?

Ok I have confirmed that repeatedly PLAYING my project sucks up hundreds of MB of ram that is NOT returned to the system!
Is anybody else noticing this? This is a PROBLEM!

Options – Preferences – Video tab

What is the Dynamic RAM Preview Max set to? You might try reducing this value.

Ok, I have confirmed this at least 4-5 times. After playing a 3-4 minute edited video and doing a number of various kinds of other edits, I am watching in Task Mgr as Sony Vegas 8.0B sucks up hundreds of MB of RAM which is ONLY released by minimizing and then maximizing Vegas. I notice there is a problem when I try to run outlook or IE and it loads extremely slowly. Can you try and confirm this? Otherwise…it works FLAWLESSLY. This seems really important.

Did you change the setting I mentioned? Also, I don’t have the “movie studio” version so some things may be different.

On this particular project, are you using a bunch of large stills?

Hi I tried this, it made NO difference. It’s sucking up huge amounts of ram and releasing it only when it exits or you minimize and maximize…….This seems likea HUGE bug to me….posted it on the Sony Creative website for Customer Service…no response yet……thanks for all your help…………………………………

Ok, answer the second question now: Are you using a lot of photos?

[MattInLA] “I notice there is a problem when I try to run outlook or IE and it loads extremely slowly”

That should be the 1st thing to avoid: anything internet related on an edit system. I assume since you do this, you also have anti-virus running as well? All this is asking for trouble in my opinion. The box I’ve had for 6 yrs still runs as clean as the day I purchased it, mainly because it’s never ever been connected to the net.

    Just a suggestion.
