  Vegas 7.0 vs. 6.0

  I’m a potential new user who is interested for the most part in event and documentary work, and who has no interest at this time in HD.

  That said, do I need Vegas 7.0, or will Vegas 6.0 satisfy my needs at a fraction of the cost? Also, to make this a winning experience in either incarnation I will need print and video tutorial support. Which version will give me the most solid tutorial grounding? And which video and print materials give the biggest bang for the buck?

  Vegas 6 will probably do fine for you even though Vegas 7 added some neat new features (like the new snapping tool!). Vegas 7 does HDV *MUCH* more smoothly than Vegas 6 but you said that is a non-issue. As for training, any training you find on Vegas 6 will also work for Vegas 7. There are several DVD training sets as well as some third party books on Vegas.
