I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum + DVD. I have been trying to crop a video event in widescreen so that the left hand half of the first event covers the left hand half of the screen, leaving the right half blank for a second event to show through, (so that I can have a conversation with myself!.)So far I have had very limited success with this. Is there a straightforward way of achieving a smooth effect?

Yes there is. Look at vol 3 #1 of my newsletters for several ways to accomplish this task. It’s written for the full version so the Bezier masking method probably isn’t there but the other methods should work.

    Thanks Ed. I’ll try it.

The second method using pan/crop worked beautifully. I had tried this previously but had not said “no” in the screen stretch. I can now talk to myself very convincingly. Thanks again.

They say talking to yourself is not a problem. Answering yourself is where the problem comes in :>).
