Picture in Picture in Sony Vegas Movie Studio
Please forgive me for a repeat post via Creative Cow. Before I delve into some mental gymnastics on how to alter events to create picture in picture perhaps I should establish that it can be done in the basic version of vegas. I have vegas 6. So far my clues are that this happens in bezier mask (only available in full version). This is suppose to take placehow in the tracks but I am mystified… nothing of any sort of instruction in user manual tutorials etc. The elusive PIP…. hmmm…. scratches head and is beat for the moment…

According to the subject, you have Vegas Movie Studio 6 – not Vegas 6.

In the full version of Vegas, a very easy method is to use Track Motion to resize and position the clip. Does VMS have Track Motion? If yes, look at issues 2, 3, and 4 of my newsletter where I show how to do this in Vegas 4 (the technique is still the same).
If you do not have Track Motion, do you have Pan/Crop? If yes, open Pan/Crop and make the “F” box LARGER (which will make the image smaller). You can then move the “F” box around to position the PIP.

Thank you Ed. By the way I was essentially asking the wrong question. I wanted to create the effect of a friend being filmed here in California and creating a special affect to show him interacting with African animals in footage obtained from Africa.
To be clearer I am wondering what is the terminology that describes when I “cut out” the person in event 1 (him standing in California)
and paste him or make him or merge him with event 2 appearing with an african elephant in another clip? Thank you for your gracious patience with a newby!
