  Need help creating effect.

  Sorry for the vague subject…but I couldn’t figure out a better way to put it.

  *NEWBIE QUESTION*

  I am very new to AFX…but I have worked with non-linear editing systems for years.

  What I want to do is take a city skyline that I have video of…then wipe/dissolve to the same image with an effect (making it cartoon looking) very blocky and simple color structure (buildings will be black). Then I want to zoom into the image and while rotating it, make 2 of the tallest buildings become black widescreen bars.

  (I got the idea from a post here on Creative)…you can check out the spot at: https://simplifistudios.com/ — It is the Cytek Spot.

  With my minimal expertise in After Effects…my plan is to get to the frame I want to rotate (all effects applied) and export it to Photoshop…make it a high resolution image (that the lines of the buildings are straight when zoomed into the image several hundred percent) Because the lines have to be straight and can’t be pixelated at all.

  Is this the easiest way to do this? What is a good resolution to begin working with…is there a mathmatical equation to determine amount of percentage of zoom = so much resolution?

  OK There Goes ..
  Create your main comp in a bigger size than requested (i.e square – because you’re gonna rotate it
  and don’t want the background showing)
  Place the video of the Skyline in that comp.
  Now, you have to create the illustrated skyline.
  Either do this in illustrator (place a psd capture of the vid and draw it)
  or draw the skyline using solid and masks in shapes of the buildings.

  So now you have a vector image which you can zoom in any scale you like, it will still be crisp.
  Now for the 2 bars – I’d place 2 masks on a black solid that will be on top of the buildings.
  now you can either the composition, while enlarging the masks for the bars.

  put the whole thing in a TV sized comp and fune tune it.

  I’d do this in AE 3D (for a nicer camera move, maybe place the buildings at different z-depths)
  but even remaining in 2D can look OK
