What DVD/Blu-ray authoring program can play back my film in its native 23.976 frames-per-second?
I like DVD Architect Pro 6.0, but it has an issue that irks me which I can’t argue with but at the same time I wish something could be done.
My film was shot in 23.976 frames-per-second, yet when burning the DVD for it using Architect, my only option for NTSC is 29.97. The end result is a film that looks almost PAL like, with the frame rate having to be re-adjusted.
What, then, are my options to make a DVD of my film that plays back in its native FPS format, or at least 24 fps? As I understand, this is unavoidable in Architect, but is it also unavoidable with other programs as well?
And, most importantly, will this be an issue I face when it comes time to burn Blu-ray’s?

You have no options. When DVD was invented over 10 years ago, NTSC TV’s only supported 29.97 so DVD’s only support 29.97. Even if you found a program that would allow you to place 24p on a DVD… the DVD Player itself would convert it to 29.97 on the fly as you watch it because NTSC DVD players only support 29.97 fps. Every Hollywood movie you have every watched on DVD has been playing back at 29.97. That’s the NTSC SD standard.

No, Blu-ray won’t be a problem. You can use your original 23.976 fps progressive format on Blu-ray.

Fair enough. Maybe it was the TV I played the disc in, because when I later played my DVD in a PS4 on a LG HDTV, it looked like what I originally shot, and I was pleased.

You will also see a difference from a regular DVD player and one that Upscales. I’m guessing the PS4 is upscaling the video to make it look better on an HD TV. The DVD upscaler in my Blu-ray player is really good to the point that my DVD’s and Blu-rays look pretty close.
