  • Can’t render with GPU!

Posted by Boon Poh ching on July 24, 2015 at 2:28 pm

I used Vegas 13, with the system as below: i7 2600, 3.40 GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 cores, 8 logical pro… 12G RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, graphic card is AMD Radeon HD6770.

When I choose “render with GPU if available” or “automatic”, my rendering will crash somewhere, never finish after many attempts! Although it says that OpenCL is available. But if I choose “render with CPU only” it can finish in 8minutes!

    Desperately need your help, please…

Then don’t do it. eh? BTW, you DO have GPU selected in Preferences – yes?

Yes, you’re right. But I just wonder why? What can I do to correct it. I try my best to look for the answer through internet but really upset that I still fail to do so…

Please answer my question. Have got GPU selected in Preferences?

Have you checked to confirm that your GPU is one that is compliant to the SONY GPU specifications.

GPU support doesn’t work for every hardware combination or for every codec.

[Boon Poh Ching] “es, you’re right. But I just wonder why?”

Bugs in Vegas and/or the GPU device driver.

What should I do to know is there any bugs in Vegas or GPU device?

The 6770 is basically just a 5770 and should work just fine with GPU enabled.

Did you do any of the tests I recommended in your last post on this topic?

[Boon Poh Ching] “What should I do to know is there any bugs in Vegas or GPU device?”

The only thing any of us can do about bugs in software is to work around them, and report them to technical support.

By working around this problem involved turning GPU support off. It sounds like not enabling GPU in the encoder has your render work. So do that. If that is not enough then also turning GPU support off in the Vegas video engine is something you can try.

Before doing any of this make sure you have the current video card driver installed. From direct personal experience, I have found AMD drivers have gotten better over time. Also, having the current driver is the first thing Sony technical support will ask you to do.

Thank you Mr. Aaron, I just finish all the steps that you taught in the previous message. Finally, it works after I follow all your instructions. A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU…
